Photo of the day - Luma Tower
November 26th, 2006 by ChristosYou can see Luma Tower when you crossing M8, from Glasgow International Airport to the City Center. You can see the building on your left hand side which is illuminated with blue and green colours. Luma tower was build in 1938 by by Cornelius Armour and it was used as the Glasgow Headquarters of the British Luma Co-operative Lamp Co. The tower was used to test lamps which illuminate the surrounding area. In 1996 the building converted to 54 residential flats. (Source)
This is a night shot I took back in October and because of the light pollution the results were not that great but with some post processing it looks more attractive.

I have seen the other photos you have of the same building and it is a very interesting Art-Deco building. In the 30s this was the style of many famous buildings in the USA such as the Empire State building, the Chrysler Building etc, as well as the Hoover building in London. Is there any other Art-Deco building in Glasgow? What style of Architecture has the city centre, mostly?

I have to agree with Filippos that Luma Tower is an intersting Art-Deco building and I have to mention that if you click at “Source” (in Christos’ post) then filippos, you can get all your answers that you need about the city of Glasgow in general.
Thanks Christos fro the nice photo and for the link “Source”.
